
Faith I. Mitchell is a current member of the Board of Public Works. Prior to joining the Board, she was an Administrative Law Judge for the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board where she served for over 15 years. She was an arbitrator and mediator as principal of her own firm, Metropolis Mediations, specializing in the resolution of public sector disputes.
Faith was an experienced civil litigator, primarily representing governmental entities in the areas of eminent domain, governmental tort liability, real property, contract, and employment matters. Her experience included service as in-house counsel for Caltrans where she handled cases from the inception up to and including appellate courts. She represented clients in private practice in personal injury and cities and other public entities in eminent domain. She was a recognized lecturer on the topic of eminent domain in MCLE courses throughout the state and nationally. She is a longtime member of the California Bar.
She has been an active community volunteer, leading her local neighborhood watch group for over 17 years and served on the Area Planning Commission for South Los Angeles for seven years under two administrations. She was a member of Friends for Expo Transit, an all-volunteer grassroots group that advocated for, planned and designed the Exposition Light Rail Project from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica.
Faith is a longtime resident of Crenshaw Manor, just north of Baldwin Hills. Ms. Mitchell received her law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law and has an undergraduate degree from Arizona State University.
