In partnership with Councilmember Traci Park, the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works hosted a community townhall in Westchester, bringing together residents, community organizations, and city departments for an evening of discussion and collaboration. The event offered an opportunity for the constituents of Council District 11 to share their concerns, ask questions, and learn more about the work taking place in their neighborhoods.
All five Bureaus under the Board of Public Works joined the event to provide an overview of their programs and accomplishments from the past fiscal year:
- The Bureau of Street Lighting addressed ongoing street light outages and shared how residents can report problems and track repairs.
- The Bureau of Street Services discussed street and sidewalk repair projects, street sweeping schedules, tree trimming, and enforcement around street vending.
- The Bureau of Engineering highlighted sidewalk repair efforts and demonstrated BuildLA, the city’s online platform to streamline permitting and development services.
- The Bureau of Sanitation shared updates on comprehensive cleanups of homeless encampments, the CARE and CARE+ programs, and encouraged residents to take advantage of free bulky item pickup services.
- The Bureau of Contract Administration educated attendees about the Fair Work Week ordinance and minimum wage enforcement, ensuring that workers understand their rights and protections.
Throughout the evening, community members expressed their perspectives on neighborhood priorities and the impact of city services. While many residents acknowledged progress and appreciated the chance to engage directly with department representatives, there were also candid conversations about areas where more work remains.
The Board of Public Works expressed gratitude to everyone who attended and reinforced its commitment to continue these townhalls in all 15 council districts to promote transparency, accountability, and stronger partnerships with communities across Los Angeles. The Board looks forward to its next town hall in Council District 1.
