
The City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works is pleased to announce the appointment of Ernesto Cardenas as its newest Commissioner. A resident of Sylmar, Commissioner Cardenas is a familiar face, having previously served on the Board from 2007 to 2009. He holds a Master's in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Throughout his professional career, he has served as an engineer and business leader for companies such as AT&T, Pac Bell, and SBC.

Commissioner Cardenas brings decades of professional experience as an engineer, adding valuable technical expertise to the Board’s efforts to maintain and improve the City’s infrastructure and services. His appointment also strengthens Valley representation, ensuring that the perspectives and priorities of communities across the San Fernando Valley are well-represented in public works decisions. Commissioner Cardenas also has years of experience in different aspects of City service. In addition to his experience on the Board of Public Works, he has also served on the Planning Commission, the Board of Building and Safety, and the Harbor Area Planning Commission.
The Board is excited to welcome Commissioner Cardenas back and looks forward to the knowledge, skill, and dedication he will contribute in this new chapter of service.
