LOS ANGELES– In partnership with the California Green Business Network (CABN), Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment’s (LASAN) Green Business Program hosted over 100 attendees at The California Endowment in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 23rd.

This year’s Green Business Expo highlighted its theme “Small Changes, Big Differences” placing emphasis on the change each business can make to maintain the city of Los Angeles. Businesses and business owners were welcomed by LASAN’s Assistant Director, Alex Helou. Helou highlighted the importance of sustainability in the city of Los Angeles and the role L.A. plays in sustainability initiatives put forth by the state of California.

“It is rewarding  to see the commitment that certified green businesses have accomplished toward achieving sustainability and excellence in the  city of Los Angeles,” Helou shared.

The event highlighted current resources including available grant opportunities for the small business community. The event spotlighted two of the City's significant green business leaders:

  • Monique Figueiredo of CompostableLA - Recognized for her leadership in diverting waste produced at LA events, Hollywood productions, and businesses and for assisting residents to skip the landfill while feeding the soil, locally.
  • Gerard Jiron of Laurel Kitchens - Celebrated for his commitment to sustainable food practices and innovative eco-friendly restaurant operations.

Presenters included representatives of LASAN, the office of Mayor Karen Bass, and the California Green Business Network.

Attendees of the Green Business Expo learned about the history of the green business program, how the program aligns with the City of LA’s zero waste goals, and achieving compliance toward the City's plastics and edible food recovery policies.
